Keep Your Skin Young And Fresh

Many things scare us as we grow, but there is nothing like the fear of aging. It is a natural process where we tend to lose the youthfulness and freshness of our skin. Wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin are some of the aging signs. While it is important to catch the early signs of aging, you must understand prevention is easier than reversing the effects of aging. By adopting a good skincare regime, changing lifestyle and considering anti-ageing treatments are steps towards youthful-looking skin. Let’s first understand why skin age.

Why Skin age?

Our skin is made up of three layers – epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous. After the 20s, our skin surface starts to change beneath and slowly substances like collagen and elastic fibers start to degrade letting our skin become inelastic and brittle. A key chemical in our skin called Hyaluronic acid also reduces over time that results in the dryer and rougher skin. Also, older skin retains less water making our skin prone to infection, and inflammation. After 40, the collagen is no more produced, so our skin loses elasticity, moisture and starts to sag. Of course, there are other factors such as sun damage, free radicals and skin diseases that can contribute to skin aging, but there are ways to delay the process of aging. Here is how to improve aging skin and prevent further damage.

Ways to keep your skin young and fresh:

Sunscreen – Sun exposure speeds up the process of aging so you must start using sunscreen as early as possible. Avoiding the sun is hardly possible for all of us, but we must at least try to skip intense sun hours. Use sunscreen above SPF30 and reapply it every two hours when in sun. Wearing a hat, sunglass, full sleeve and covering up can also do the trick.

Moisturise – There are 4 important steps towards a skin care regime – cleansing, toning, moisturizing and sunscreen. Moisturizer is required to lock down water in our skin, which helps to give a youthful appearance and protect our skin from within. Moisturizer with advance formula helps in skin’s cell regeneration. Don’t forget to apply a thick and creamy moisturizer at night.

Exfoliate – Exfoliating regularly can help in removing dead skin cells and debris from the surface of your skin. Opt for a gentle exfoliator with lactic acid, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid. Use it thrice a week and experience more hydrated, younger, resilient and smoother skin.

Retinol – Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A that reduces acne, improves skin tone and reverses the signs of aging. Retinol is mostly added to anti-aging skin creams and serums because it stimulates collagen and promotes skin cells. Add retinol-based creams in your skin care regime and see your skin fight against wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, and acne.

Eat healthily – According to various studies, people that are on a balanced diet are less likely to develop wrinkles and sagging skin. Food rich in Vitamin C helps to form collagen, which helps to hold the skin together making it firm and elastic. A well-balanced diet includes a diet low in fats and carbohydrates and rich in Vitamin A. So make friends with a healthy diet and keep glowing from within.

Exercise – Increasing circulation in the body helps to remove waste from the body and boost the immune system. Work out, walking, cycling, meditation, and yoga all help our body and mind to relax and function better. This, in turn, gives your skin a more fresh appearance.

Quit Smoking – An enzyme called matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is created within our body when we smoke. This enzyme destroys the collagen in your skin, leading to premature aging. Moreover, smoking also makes your complexion uneven and dull.
